Employment relationships can be ended by either an employer or employee. In most cases, the legislation requires the person ending the employment to give notice.
- Notice Period
An employer in Manitoba, who can terminate your employment at any time and for any reason, must provide you with proper written notice or pay in lieu of notice.
- Severance Pay
Federally, the Canada Labour Code also provides for severance pay for employees with 12 months service or more before their layoff or dismissal resulted in the termination of their employment. In this case, employees are entitled to 2 days’ of regular wages for each full year they have worked with a minimum benefit paid of 5 days’ pay.
