Working Hours

General Working Hours

44 hours per week.

Overtime

Any hours beyond eight hours each day is considered overtime and will be paid at a minimum of 135% of the normal wage. If the workweek exceeds 68 hours, the extra pay rate is 200%. Night hours are paid at 115%.

Leave

Paid Time Off

14 days per year, once an employee has completed one year of service. After 5 years, annual leave days go up to 18 per year.

Public Holidays

13 days.

Sick Days

Paid sick leave is not required by law.

Maternity Leave

14 weeks (paid).

Paternity Leave

Two days each year.

Parental Leave

There is no legal requirement for parental leave.

Other Leave

Marriage Leave – five days

Death of an immediate family member – three days

Termination

Termination Process

Reasonable cause is required when terminating an employees’ contract, along with a minimum of two days notice.

Notice Period

When an employer is terminating an employee’s contract the following notice periods must be adheared to:

  • More than 3 months of service: seven days notice
  • More than 6 months of service: 14 days notice
  • More than 1 year of service: 28 days notice
Severance Pay

Severance pay will be calculated by the following:

  • 3 – 6 months of employment: the employee receives six days’ salary
  • 6 – 12 months of employment: 13 days’ salary
  • 1 – 5 years of employment: 21 days’ salary
  • Over 5 years of employment: 23 days’ salary
Probation Period

Maximum of 3 months.

Visa

Employment Visa

Employees can apply for a business visa lasting one year. After this initial year, the employee may apply for a renewal if they have proof of continued employment.
